Hi Some of my customers give me dimensions for string spacing at Nut and Bridge. The way I work out the dimensions for the fingerboard is to draw it out full scale. I just wondered if anyone had a better method. |

As a rule of thumb, I like the width at the 12th fret to be equal to that of the pin to pin spacing at the saddle location. This allows for a little more meat on the edge of the finger board as you play above the 12th fret, were the strings are looser and like to slip off the edges. |

I'm with Lance on this. Unless the bridge has a wide spacing. Then, sometimes, the neck width at the14th fret is equal to the pin spacing. That's a slight difference, I admit, but wide necks can start to stretch things for some players, and a bit of comfort can go a long way in making it more enjoyable to play. |

Thanks Guys Lance Just to clarify do you mean center to center on the Big and Little E pin holes ? |
